Q&A with the Editors

What can you tell us about your book-who is it aimed at and how will it help them?

Busy veterinary practitioners and students of veterinary medicine. The pet owner can also easily find out further information on their pet’s medical condition. Client education topics are included with the textbook.

What is in this new edition that we haven’t seen in the others?

A new Edition is being done every three years; topics are now totally in alphabetical order and not in sections so even easier for the reader to quickly find out information they need, rather than searching information from within a chapter as found in most of the other textbooks on the market;a Client Education section; still a format for each topic that is easy to see how to make a diagnosis and treat the condition.

What makes this new edition stand out from other veterinary internal medicine titles?

Most current textbook published in the veterinary field with an easy to use format. The book also covers essentially every disease condition and clinical sign that dogs and cats can have!

Tell us about this title’s Companion Website.

We eliminated the Client Handout CD and created the Companion Website which houses the more than 300 Client Handouts. The handouts are available for customization and use in practice, each being redesigned with a more attractive color design, and with more obvious opportunities to personalize.

What change, happening in the field, do you believe is going to make the most difference in Small Animal clinics?

More continued specialization --- Pet owners are more knowledgeable and are demanding current diagnostics and therapy for their pets—which means the veterinarian in practice needs to stay current. The 5 Minute Consult is the only education publication that does that! The only other avenue for keeping up is attending the veterinary conferences.

In your perspective what is the biggest challenge in the Veterinary field at this time?

The need for the veterinarian to be current in all of the diagnostics and treatment principles.

What advice do you have for a new veterinarian that wants to specialize in Canine/Feline practice?

To specialize is highly recommended while at the same time being a general practitioner-it is a satisfying as you can focus on one or two areas of expertise in that respective practice. The doctor needs to stay current to be specialist—it is why 5 Minute Consult is ideal for each veterinary practice.
