A black high school student, heading out of the ghetto on a basketball scholarship, is accidentally shot and killed by the police when they mistake him for an armed rapist, in "Cornbread, Earl and Me." Now, the community that viewed him as a hero must come to grips with the tragic loss of a young man who was inspiration to them all. Bernie Casey, Moses Gunn, Rosalind Cash, Tierre Turner, and Laurence Fishburne (in his feature film debut) star. And, "Cooley High" is a fine comedy/drama in the style of "American Graffiti" and "Breaking Away" starring Lawrence-Hilton Jacobs and Glynn Turman as high schoolers facing all manners of problems in the inner city.
