The VB-8UN has a full set of 8 amplified output ports - each port carries the exact same signal level as the input port - in both the forward and reverse directions. This makes the VB-8UN a true lossless splitter both ways, allowing you to connect virtually any cable TV device and enjoy worry-free operation. All 8 ports can be used for any type of device including a modem. The VB-8UN also provides a Bypass port - it allows you to connect any device to the amplifier and insure operation of that device in the event of a power failure. The PCT-VB series RF amps are designed to support critical applications such as telephony that require high reliability networks to provide uninterrupted service at all times. PCT-VB series amps have a 2 way splitter incorporated on the RF input prior to the diplex filter which provides an add'l port on the housing for the cable modem or eMTA connection that bypasses the amplifier circuit. This feature enables critical apps to not be affected by power outages or amp failures. During normal operation, all 8 ports have unity gain (0dB gain/loss) in both directions. During a power interruption, the input port is routed to the bypass port, which means that whatever is connected to that (bypass) port [typically an eMTA (VoIP adapter) or other modem] never loses signal and still has 0dB gain/loss.
