Pan flute or Zampoña is used mainly in the Andean highlands, and in countries such as Bolivia, Ecuador, Peru and Colombia. Its development began around the fifth century of the Christian era, the Huari or Wari culture, which is located in Peru. From that time to the present there have been a wide variety of them. The pan flute is played by blowing horizontally across an open end against the sharp inner edge of the pipes.
