FACTS OF INTEREST

• There are over 300 species of squirrel around the world. The Red squirrel and the Gray squirrel are common tree squirrels in North America.
• Squirrels are very agile and flexible: they can jump 12 feet using their long, bushy tails for balance and as a rudder.
• Squirrels also use their tails as blankets and as umbrellas for shade. They warn other squirrels of danger with tail signals.
• Squirrels have adapted well to life with people and are considered a serious pest by many farmers and foresters.
