We were Soldiers (widescreen Edition)Randall Wallace the director of critically acclaimed films such as brave heart, payback – the Director’s cut, and to name a few, brings the much anticipated true-life based story of
We Were Soldiers. This film occurs in the era of ‘60s, precisely 1965, whereby 400 American troops were on the midst of an ambush by 2,000 armed-to-teeth (Vietnam) enemy troops in the territorial area known as the valley of death. The film gets deeper and enlivens the memory and scenes that once occurred and sadly claimed the lives of the brave soldiers who gave their all for their beloved country. The American soldier lieutenant Harold Moore (Mel Gibson) instils the confidence in his troops that he will never leave anyone of his troops behind whether dead or alive.
The film is fierce, gruesome with a heavy abundance of artillery and ammunition and the pool of blood is splattered all over the place. Meanwhile the combat ensues, the American a civilian who is UPI reporter by the name of Joseph Galloway (portrayed by Barry Pepper) captures the scene armed with nothing but a pen, paper and a camera gets caught up in the middle of artillery and runs for cover, and eventually the lieutenant gives him a weapon to fend for himself.
The very hard to swallow scenes is the one whereby the departed, fallen soldiers’ wives are announced about the death of their loved ones, it is devastating and truly will leave you with some watery eyes after seeing it. I recommend this film to everyone who likes the bravery scenes and draws inspiration from soldiers who are working tirelessly to fight for their country. Thumbs up for the Director, Randall Wallace for the recreation of a true story in a brave, yet meticulous way. Other seasoned actors within the film includes Madeleine Stowe who is the wife of Lieutenant Moore (Mel Gibson) who artfully relives the character quite outstandingly together with Greg Kinnear, Chris Klein and Sam Elliot as soldiers.
