Michael Jackson’s 3D clip to appear in Grammys

Michael Jackson’s 3D clip to appear in Grammys

The Grammy Awards to be held on the 31st of January are to include a tribute in honour of the late Michael Jackson (This Is It) featuring a 3D clip the singer recorded before his death. The Recording Academy announced this week, that the posthumous tribute would be performed by Usher, Celine Dion, Carrie Underwood, Jennifer Hudson and Smokey Robinson, as well as the 3D segment.

The clip was intended for Jackson’s hit single “Earth Song” which was to signal his comeback in London of July 2009. He died on June 25th. Co-executive producer, Ken Ehrlich, said it will be the first time a 3D segment will be featured at the awards show.

Ehrlich was with Jackson the night before he died, where he first saw the clip which is referred to as a ‘call to action about the destruction man is reaping on animals and nature’. The incredible images of natural beauty are seen through the eyes of a little girl who falls asleep, only to wake up to its destruction.

A recent documentary of the singer’s life, included pieces of the clip, but it will be aired for the first time in its entirety at the Grammys. The clip requires viewers to wear 3D glasses to experience its full effect.

Along with the tribute, the singer will receive the Lifetime Achievement Award during the show

Jackson died before his comeback tour in London last year, where every one of his shows was sold out. The documentary This Is It  features interviews with the star and others involved in the shows, as well as backstage footage and rehearsals. This Is It is available in Blu-ray from WantItAll for the best price of R350.
