Blu-ray takes centre stage in 2010  

According to Electricpig, online UK tech mag, 2010 is the year that Blu-ray takes centre stage. Although extended from 2006, the eye flattering DVD player will finally become mainstream this year, as the comedy of errors that have resulted in its slow uptake have been ironed out.  

Perhaps the biggest drawback to the Blu-ray and its DVDs is the pretty penny it costs. This year will see the price of both player and disc drop in price making it more affordable for even the bargain-bucket buddies. Classic DVDs will also re-appear in the crisp quality of Blu-ray for less than the cost of a new release.  

PS3 Slim sales have also peaked which come with the added favour of playing Blu-ray discs. Now that more families have Blu-ray players in the form of a PS3, more families will be making use of its capacity. HD TVs are also becoming more mainstream which makes the appeal of using them to the full via Blu-ray more appealing. HD, like Blu-ray had a slow uptake, but they play well of each other. HD sales will correlate to Blu-ray sales.  

Although it’s not finalised yet, Blu-ray 3D is in the cards. It’s a logical step up from high definition. Once that happens Blu-ray will be as common as DVD.
