A Girl in Wartime

When the war breaks out in 1914, young Connie Lovell is encouraged to leave her job at a cardboard box factory in search of something to help the war effort. But when a newspaper job opening catches her eye, she cannot help but inquire. With her uncanny ability to capture people’s emotions in her portraits, she is quickly noticed by the handsome editor, Stephen Clayton. Nine years her senior, their relationship develops, both professional and personal. But as the war rages on, and her brothers are gradually sent overseas, it seems that more and more men are being drafted—even men previously thought too old, and even women.
