Product Description
Africa Heartwood Project Classic Heartwood Gyli with Mallets – 10 Key C Pentatonic - African Xylophone Balafon from Ghana, Handcrafted by Village Artisans in Ghana - Key of C-C#
- HAND-CRAFTED IN GHANA – This Classic Heartwood Gyli is hand-crafted in Africa by village cultural artisans supported by the non-profit Africa Heartwood Project. It reflects traditional craftsmanship from Burkina Faso and northern Ghana. After import, each marimba instrument is cleaned, inspected, tuned, and played individually to check sound and quality.
- 10 KEYS IN KEY OF C-C# – The 10 keys are tuned in the C pentatonic scale (+/- 1/4 step). Due to the drying process during import, the pitch rises by up to 1/2 step, making this gyil close to C#. The large gourds beneath the lower notes provide deep sustain, while the higher notes offer a bright, quick response.
- RICH SOUND WITH FULL-SIZE GOURDS & DURABLE FRAME – This gyil features full-size gourds under each blade, amplifying and sustaining sound. The low notes rake upward, allowing room for the larger gourds to enhance sound projection. The solid frame is constructed with hardwood, leather, and rope, ensuring long-lasting durability.
- HEAT-DRIED KEYS & 2 RUBBER MALLETS INCLUDED – The heat-dried keys help maintain tonality and prevent cracking, keeping the instrument tuned over time. This percussion instrument comes with two rubber mallets.
- SUPPORTING COMMUNITY AND TRADITION – Our musical instruments are unique. All products of Africa HeartWood Project are hand-crafted in Africa by village cultural artisans. Each purchase contributes directly to Africa Heartwood Project, supporting the livelihoods of communities in Africa. This non-profit, run by passionate volunteers, fights poverty and promotes community development in West Africa. Your choice makes a difference, blending the joy of music with social impact.
This 10 blade xylophone from Africa Heartwood Project is handcrafted in Ghana in the traditional style of northern Ghana and Burkina Faso.
