Ancient Tales of Money: An Updated, All-Ages Version Of "The Richest Man In Babylon"
Most folk tales are about kings and queens, witches and knights, castles, monsters, and magic... But these 10 stories are for people who love to read about merchants, gold, and money!
In an Ancient Desert City Full of Stories…
Some know the secret to getting gold. Â Those are the rich. Â But most of Babylon's people do not know how to keep their money, and those are the people who stay poor. Â One man, Arkad, is determined to change that. Â As the richest man in Babylon, his mission is to teach all Babylon's poor so that they, too, can enjoy wealth.
Eleven-year-old Rukia is a Babylon peasant girl who raises her own chickens and sells the eggs. This extra money is the only way she’ll be able to afford the treats she wants, such as honey cakes. Rukia thinks this will be her life forever… until she meets a mysterious stranger on the road.
To Rukia’s surprise, Master Arkad is her father’s old friend from school. He takes Rukia as his student, and causes her to meet many successful and interesting people in the busy Babylon market. But they are not too busy to tell Rukia their adventures, since Babylon is a land of stories…
There are two ways to read this book.
You can read it as a book of adventure stories for ages 9 - 12.  It takes place in a fantasy ancient Babylon... with camels, sand, merchants, jewels, and chariots… a setting to grip the imagination.
But you can also read it to learn what rich people actually teach their children. Encoded in the stories is the right way to handle money so that it does not slip away. The money information is very real, and as Arkad says, "The best lessons also make the best tales."
Are there more Ancient Tales of Money?
Yes! You can start with the longer story of Arkad's son, Nomasir.
Thirteen-year-old Nomasir is the happy-go-lucky son of the wealthy Arkad and Yaffa. After he graduates school at the Temple of Learning, he thinks he can look forward to an easy life.
His parents have other ideas! Arkad and Yaffa make him leave home to live on his own, sending him off with a generous bag of gold, but also a mysterious tablet…
If you want to read about Nomasir’s adventures on his own, we’ll email this multi-chapter story to you. Just go to our website here, and you will find it:

We write both funny and serious stories about topics that kids are keenly interested in: money, friendship, personal power. A lot of the ideas come straight from the minds of the readers on the neighborhood circuit! We listen when someone aged 10 says, “You should write a book about…â€
Generally, we write kids’ adventure fiction that includes talking cats, making money, puzzles and hacking, and magic. Sometimes the stories are wacky, sometimes they’re funny, and sometimes they’re serious. Check them all out on our website, including the book that started it all: “Pink Kitty and the Meowy Moon Halloween Candy Mystery.â€
