UVR is present in sunlight. Sunburn is one sign that your skin has been exposed to too much UVR. Overexposure to UVR over many years can cause more serious health problems such as skin cancers or cataracts. Clothing that is sensibly designed for sun protection reduces your UVR exposure. The Ultraviolet Protection Factor(UPF) rating shows how well a fabric protects your skin from solar UVR and lets you select sun protection clothing with confidence. UPF ratings range from 15 to 50. Fabrics rated higher than 50 are labelled as UPF 50+. Remember that a garment only protects the skin it covers, so protect your head, face and exposed skin by wearing a hat, sunglasses and sunscreen and make use of shaded outdoor areas.
