Js bartow and sons board tonic is a natural, vegan formulation for wood and bamboo cutting boards and butcher blocks. Made from 100% plant derived oils, Bartow board tonic is safe for use and even edible (though not the intended purpose). Unlike mineral oils, which are a byproduct of crude oil (a known carcinogen), our oil uses no hydrocarbons or synthetic additives. Our plant formula is coconut oil based and refined using a special process to ensure that the oils impart no smells or tastes. This refining process also keeps this oil shelf stable for years and will not go rancid, unlike other natural oils like walnut or peanut oil. After the refinement, we add a essential citrus oil for added properties and a pleasing scent. Directions for use cutting boards: apply thin layer of board tonic evenly over the entire surface of the cutting board or butcher block. Let the oil soak into the wood for at least one hour (preferably overnight, if possible). Wipe with clean cloth afterward. Repeat as necessary when your cutting board becomes dry or every month. Salad bowls: for a 12" inch bowl, pour an ounce of oil into the bottom of the bowl. Using a cloth, wipe oil along the inside of the bowl, covering the bowl in oil. Wipe up excess oil, turn over salad bowl and wipe rest onto outside. Let sit an hour before using, but your bowl should immediately look rich and full of life again. Store out of sunlight for best results.
