This stunning volume showcases more than 100 black dolls by 49 contemporary artists, including Americans Floyd Bell, Jennifer Canton, Richard and Jodi Creager, Marcella Welch and Goldie Wilson as well as international makers such as Brigitte Deval, Hildegard Gunzel, Philip heath and Annette Himstedt. In selecting the roster of artists for inclusion in the book, the authors Nayda Rondon, editor of Dolls magazine and Barbara A. Whiteman, founder and executive director of the Philadelphia Doll Museeum considered the originality and quality of each maker s work, and sought to provide an overview of this growing segment of the doll world. Ms. Whiteman s informative introduction and artist commentaries are well paired with Ms. Rondon s insightful biographies of each artist.
