Brother John

Elvin Jones, the master of polyrhythmic drumming, is sui generis. Many of the things he was first to do are now—more than two decades after he joined what his presence made the John Coltrane Quartet—taken for granted, thought those of us who were around then still remember how utterly startling and wondrous it was. But even today, there is no drummer who gets the sound and feeling Elvin Jones does.
