Cat 6a, or Just Pretending?

Cat6a patch cables are supposed to be tested for signals up to 500 MHz, to cope with PAM-16 encoded, 10 Gig network data rates. Getting spec-compliant performance at these data rates is difficult. Our testing of competitors' products has shown that 80% of cables claimed to meet Cat 6 or 6a specs FAIL certification testing.

Most sellers of "Cat 6a" cables are just importers, not manufacturers; many of them know nothing about cable and have no idea how poor their own quality is. Blue Jeans Cable is different. We are an American manufacturer, known for high-quality, high-bandwidth cable assemblies. We assemble these right here in our own plant in Seattle, using a proprietary patchcord stock made for us in Kentucky by Belden (and employing Belden's patented bonded-pair technology) and connectors manufactured in Pennsylvania. This cable is US-made from end to end, apart from the imported strain relief boot.

But even the best, most experienced assembler can't guarantee compliance without testing each and every last assembly, and so that's what we do. We run a full "certification test" on EVERY Ethernet cable we make, using a certification tester, the Fluke DTX-1800; rather than just check continuity, or just check function in a rough-and-ready way, the DTX tests the very properties--crosstalk and return loss--which are critical to passing the spec. We print out the full report (not a generic report, but the report for your individual cable), including crosstalk and return loss traces, and include it in the package. The result is 100% compliance -- performance you can comfortably rely on.
