CIVIL WAR LETTERS AND MEMORIES FROM THE GREAT SMOKY MOUNTAINS
Used Book in Good Condition
This book contains copies of Civil War letters, many written from actual battlefields, where they could see the enemy's campfires at night. These letters reveal their hardships, heartbreak and loneliness. Some letters describe prison life after capture. Many stories tell of life at the home front, describing raids on homes, hard times, sickness and conflicts between families and neighbors in the mountains. Col. W.W. Stringfield wrote of the many battles in which he participated. Stringfield later belonged to the Thomas Legion, where he wrote of its difficulties, discussing at length the fighters who made up the historic regiment-the Cherokee Indians.
