Cramer is known as an architect of the ''Nashville Sound,'' which blended country and pop, but his influence also extended to traditional country and rock and roll. He was a sideman on recordings by Elvis Presley, Roy Orbison, Patsy Cline and many others. Not just a top Nashville sideman, Cramer enjoyed a prolific career as a solo artist as well. Cramer cut 50 instrumental albums and reached Number Two on the pop charts in 1960 and he won a Grammy for Best Country Instrumental in 1979.
