Description
- Desi Kitchen Jaggry (Gur) is derived from sugar cane juice and is processed in the Northern part of India
- After sugar cane has been crushed to produce cane juice, the liquid is boiled down and reduced to make the golden color jaggery.
- The best quality jaggery is produced between the months of October to December, which make it a seasonal item and is only available in the first few months of a new year. It is a traditional sweetener used predominantly in South Asia
- The flavor profile changes according to the color of the jaggery. A very light golden brown jaggery will yield a fruiter, honey flavor as opposed to the darker variety that has a molasses and caramel undertone.
- Medicinal Uses: Jaggery contains more nutrients than many other sweeteners such as zine, potassium, magnesium, iron and is loaded with antioxidants. It is known to aid in digestion.
