This is a Fine Molds 1/72 scale assembly and painting required plastic model kit of the World War II era Japanese Type A Ko-hyoteki-class ("Type 'A' Target-class") midget submarine. This is a Fine Molds 1/72 scale assembly kit featuring a precision scale model of a Japanese Type 'A' Target-class midget submarine that participated in the Pearl Harbor attack on 7 December, 1941. Fine Molds kit features high quality injection molded plastic parts with finely scribed panel lines; glue and paint not included. ABOUT THE TYPE A TARGEY CLASS MIDGET SUB: This class of midget subs measures 78'5" long, 5'11" beam, and 9'10" high, and were armed with two 450 mm (17.7 in) torpedoes, which were muzzle-loaded into tubes. The Type 'A' Target-class midget subs carried a crew of two and can reach surface speeds up to 23 knots and 19 knots submerged. A total of 50 Type 'A' Target-class midget subs were built by Japan during the Second World War, and five known Type 'A' Target-class midget subs were launched during the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941, and only two known midget subs actually made it into the harbor. Of the five midget subs lunched during the Perl Harbor attacks, one, the HA. 19, was captured where it grounded on the east side of Oahu. In 2009, a research team assembled by PBS Nova positively identified the remains of a midget sub found outside the Pearl Harbor entrance as being the last of the 5 Ko-Hyoteki that participated in the December 7th, 1941, attack. Japanese midget subs were also used to attack Sydney Bay and off Madagascar during May 1942.
