The Five Pennies is a semi-biographical account of the cornet player Red Nichols, with Danny Kaye on the lead role. Red Nichols dubbed Danny s cornet playing on the film, whilst others musical stars lending a hand include Louis Armstrong (as himself), Bobby Troup, Shelly Manne and Bob Crosby. The film proved to be successful, popular (it would gain four Academy Award nominations) and the perfect vehicle for Danny.
