MEANINGS:
Considered to be the greatest of all Hindu Mantras, it is believed that from the chant of the Om sound the entire universe was created.
Each curve of the Om also has symbolic significance. The large lower curve is the walking state, Jagrat, in which consciousness is turned outwards through the gates of the senses.
The upper curve represents the state of deep sleep, Sushupti, where the sleeper desires nothing nor witnesses any dream.
The middle curve is symbolic of the dream state, Swapna, in which one is turned inwards and experiences the immense beauty of the world beneath the lids of the eyes.
The dot is the fourth state of consciousness, Turiya, in this state the consciousness looks neither inwards, outwards, or the two simultaneously. This state of peaceful silent bliss is the ultimate aim of all spiritual activity.
Semi-circle represents Maya, who's illusion prevents us from the realization of this highest state of bliss.
The sound and the symbol of the sacred Om represents several important triads in Hindu philosophy: The three worlds of earth, atmosphere, and heaven. The three major Hindu gods: Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva. And the three sacred Vedic scriptures: Rik, Yajur, and Saman.
