Recorded in front of a sold-out crowd at Chicago s Lakeshore Theater, FREAK WHARF finds Tompkins exploring the outer limits of his imagination and his own material as he alternates between fan favorites like The Sink and The Mirror, Cake v. Pie and Go Ask Alice and impromptu flights of fancy like The Enchanted Bottle. In a marked departure from the Swiss watch precision of his first release, Paul opens this album with fifteen minutes of stream-of-consciousness riffing, a prelude as loose and sublimely silly as you will ever hear. Tompkins is an actor, writer and comedian who hosted VH1 s "Best Week Ever" and has appeared on shows like "Late Night with Conan O Brien," "The Daily Show" and his own "Comedy Central Presents." He was a cast member and writer for the HBO cult classic "Mr. Show with Bob and David," and has more recently been seen in Paul Thomas Anderson's "There Will Be Blood" and Steven Soderbergh's "The Informant!"
