Walter Fuller patented his pickup for electrical stringed musical instruments on Nov 4, 1941. The object of his invention was to provide an improved magnetic pickup of the playing of stringed instruments that would be compact and effective. As well as to provide a pickup that is readily applicable and detachable to and from a stringed musical instrument of various types that can also be easily mounted and removed.
On Aug 2, 1955 Theodore McCarty patented a stringed musical instrument of the guitar type and combined bridge and tailpiece. The purpose was to provide a bridge assembly to accommodate different sized sets of graduated strings while still being attractive in appearance.
Les Paul patented this electrical instrument on Jan 30, 1962. Lester William Polsfuss was a guitarist, songwriter and inventor. He was one of the pioneers of the solid-body electric guitar, which made the sound of rock and roll possible.
Theodore McCarty also patented a stringed electrical instrument on Jan 7, 1958. The principal object of this invention was to produce tones without the harshness and metallic sound usually produced by most electrical instruments.
