The newly designed locking device surrounds the shaft, providing a comfortable place to slide the umbrella mechanism to open, and a generous, wide button to release the canopy, painlessly. The innovative shape is a rectangular crop of the traditional round parabolic umbrella, consolidating and reducing the precious area necessary for setup. The output is reminiscent of window light, like a softbox, without the circle of real estate that a large umbrella demands.
