John Caldigate (Trollope, Penguin)

John Caldigate has run up many debts and quarrelled with his father. In an attempt to put matters right, he has become indebted to a money-lender, and his father no longer wants him to be heir to their family home. To escape this situation, John decides to try his luck at gold-mining in Australia.
