Just for Kicks: A Novel

Richie Rivera is an underemployed private detective from Columbus, Ohio who takes a case that sends him to Hawai'i. He is employed by an angry man, Martin, the Big Dog, to locate and retrieve his missing granddaughter, kidnapped by her mother and her mother's female partner, against the custody judgment in her divorce from Martin's son. While in Hawai'i Richie takes the opportunity to personalize the trend-watching market research he does on the side for major athletic shoe manufacturers by attending an annual circuit party on the Big Island. His passion for sexy kicks and the gay guys who wear them becomes tangled up in his detective work, further complicated by a man who bears a striking resemblance to the polymath artist James Franco.
