- Originally released in 1995, Labcabincalifornia marked a creative evolution for the group, with production handled by The Pharcyde themselves and the late, legendary J Dilla - then a rising producer whose innovative sound helped define the album
The sophomore follow-up to the wildly successful Bizarre Ride II The Pharcyde, Labcabincalifornia showcases the production talents of a then virtually unknown J Dilla. The first single from the album, the Dilla-produced â€œDrop,â€ was a hit and the accompanying music video, performed backwards and replayed backwards by director Spike Jonze, reinforced the groupâ€™s wildly creative reputation. The album would go on to produce two more successful singles: â€œRunnin,â€ which peaked at #55 and â€œShe Said.â€ This 2LP reissue features vinyl cut under the supervision of Dave Cooley (J Dilla, Madlib) at Elysian Masters, pressed at Memphis Record Pressing, and housed in a gatefold package.
