• Allivex Menthol Crystals (Mentha Arvensis) are extracted from organically grown mint leaves using a steam distillation process to produce the Peppermint oil and then a gentle freezing process that produces the Crystals.
• Menthol Crystals can be used in perfumes, cosmetics, analgesic balms, lotions, creams, shampoos and conditioners.
• Due to their strength, you may want to wear protective eyewear, gloves and keep the space you are working in well ventilated when you are creating your recipes. Menthol is easy to inhale in small quantities in steam, but when you are creating your compounds, you'll be working with larger amounts in a dry environment..
• The strength and type of menthol varies. Our pure menthol contains 99.5% L-menthol with a melting point of approximately 105 to 107 degrees F and a flash point of 199 degrees F. The crystals are soluble in alcohol, essential oils and carrier oils but almost insoluble in water and glycerin.
• Menthol should be stirred very well to ensure it is fully dissolved to avoid skin reactions when using as an analgesic. In formulations such as ointments, liniments and other relating solutions, common usage rate is 5 to 20 percent.
• When used in soap making, it is usually best to add the menthol during the oil phase so that it does not interfere with the action of the lye in the water phase
