We have altered it slightly to make it suitable for vegetarians and vegans alike, but it still tastes just as great as our original recipe - and we consider it to be by far the best on the market. Ideal for pasta but it is also great to mix with cream for chicken dishes or dolloped onto oven-roasted garlic and chilli aubergines. It's so versatile that we would recommend keeping a jar in the kitchen cupboard at all times. Mr Organic Organic Basil Pesto. Pesto comes from the Italian "Pestare" which means to pound or crush and that's basically how we produce these delicious products - this sauce dates back to Roman times! This pesto is based on a traditional recipe from Genoa where the best basil is grown and where this simple sauce originated.
