P.D. Eastman Are You My Mother? (plus Go, Dog. Go! and The Best Nest)
P.D. Eastman's funny, touching story about a baby bird hatched while its mother is absent makes wonderful material for this animated adaptation. Looking for its mom, the feathered newborn approaches--among other things--a dog and a cow hoping to make that vital imprint. Following that contemporary classic are two more highly enjoyable tales, including The Best Nest and Go, Dog. Go! The latter is a nonsense piece about dogs of all stripes (big, little, black, white) in various states of motion (up and down, in and out) on various vehicles (scooter, boats, cars, skis). The Best Nest is a sage, cautionary narrative concerning Mr. and Mrs. Bird, who start looking for a better location for their nest, and find out the one they already have is just fine. --Tom Keogh
