Innovating Science paper chromatography kit is used to separate chemical substances, and develops student understanding of chromatography system components, and how different substances move at different rates within the system. The kit has an activity to perform paper chromatography on three individual dyes and mixture of dyes to determine if all of the dyes are in the mixture. For hands-on learning, the kit has materials for 15 groups of students, crystal violet, starch, safranin O, toluidine blue, chromatography mixture, ethanol, filter paper sheets, and capillary tubes. The kit has a teacher’s manual and student study guide copymasters for instructional use, and a material safety data sheet (MSDS) packet for product information and handling procedures. The kit is suitable for age 13 and older with adult supervision, and meets the requirements for Department of Transportation (DOT) small quantity exemption 173.4, and conforms to 49 Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) 173.4 for domestic highway or rail transport only.
