The metal hinges allow for the stand to support a laptop well, however, the higher you adjust the stand the less stable it becomes. When using this for a standing desk, we would not suggest going higher than the picture shows. If you are using the stand as a standing at a similar height to the picture shown, your typing may create very slight "wobble" as your fingers press down. If you are using it as a sitting desk, it is more stable and you will feel very little "wobble" typing. This is a very versatile stand, but will not be as stable as a traditional standing desk, or a desk that has 4 legs on a surface. Most all similar models you will find have the same down sides, but we want to make sure you know about them before you order so that you can know exactly what you are getting and be confident about it!
