We buy directly from our network of small farmers (harvesters) who harvest and dry this natural, raw superfood from the pristine waters of a Marine Protected Area. Irish Moss is an excellent source of nutrients, it provides excellent culinary value and works especially well as a vegan thickener or emulsifier, taking the place of eggs and gelatin.
Use for a number of dishes: Adds a smooth consistency to smoothies and juices. Creates mousse like texture in desserts. Thickens sauces and soups.
NOTE: There seems to be some confusion among the social media networks that state fake vs real seamoss. Keep in mind that there are several commercially available species. They are ALL real. Northern Temperate cold water species and Tropical warmer water species. When dried, they look different and may take different lengths of time to create that awesome gel. They are both nutritional and deliver lots of minerals and goodness. Color and Preparation may vary from one species to the next. Please follow the instructions on the packaging for optimal results.
FAMOUS IRISH MOSS DRINK RECIPE:
1 cup Irish Moss gel
2 cups water
1/4 tsp vanilla extract
1/2 can small sweetened condensed milk
Pinch of nutmeg
2 dashes bitters
Combine all ingredients in a blender and mix on low speed until pieces of Irish Moss are finely chopped.
Serve chilled over ice.
