Piano Sonata 2 / Variations on a Theme of Corelli

Nikolai Lugansky, now a household name on the international concert stages, began his recording career in his early twenties for the label Vanguard Classics. This Rachmaninoff recital contains a lyrical and transparent performance of the famous second sonata, several song transcriptions, the well known Corelli Variations and a hair-raising performance of Rachmaninov s transcription of Mendelssohn s Scherzo from A Midsummer Night s Dream. Lugansky, hailed by his teacher Tatiana Nikolaeva as the next one, has enjoyed an impressive career, and now performs with the world s most famous orchestras and conductors.
