• In 1964, when new rules were established for drag racing's Super Stock class, Dick Brannan, Ford's Head of Drag Racing, developed the Thunderbolt
• Starting with the lighter weight fair lane. Dick reduced the weight even more and added the powerful 427 C.I. Engine for a special car that could win the class
• In all, only 100 thunderbolts were made by Ford, split evenly between 4-speeds and automatics
• Dick recorded a time of 11.08 seconds at 128 mph as his best in the Thunderbolt
• In the end, Ford captured the Super stock title for 1964. But the Glory of the thunderbolts did not last as Drag racing changed in 1965
