Dame Shirley first made her mark in the mid-1950s, performing in numerous musical theater productions until she was discovered by band leader and impresario Jack Hylton, whose interest would put her on the path to superstardom. A consummate performer with an incredible voice, the girl from Tiger Bay, Cardiff, went on to become one of Britain's most popular singers and achieved worldwide fame with her recordings of the theme songs for the James Bond movies Gold finger (1964), Diamonds Are Forever (1971) and Moonraker (1979), two of which are featured here.
