Silica gel is formed from silicon dioxide into hard glass-like beads and is among the most commonly used adsorbent desiccants. Silica gel is ideal for a range of moisture removing applications, including inline compressed air dryers, tank breathers, humidity control in enclosed spaces (E.G. Safes, boats, closets, packaging of non-consumable goods, electronics, etc.) These beads have been impregnated with < 2% cobalt chloride, a moisture indicator. When dry, the moisture indicator is a deep blue. When the beads are saturated, their color changes to a light pink. This signals that it is time to regenerate or replace the desiccant. Cobalt chloride may be toxic to humans and this desiccant is not intended for applications where the material may be ingested.
