Building upon the foundation of the original FS7, the Sony PXW-FS7M2 XDCAM Super 35 Camera System is a versatile 4K camera system. This camera is designed to excel in a variety of productions, from “Cinéma Vérité”-style documentaries and TV to commercials and corporate applications. Its Super 35mm sized sensor enables cinematic depth of field capture. The camera also features a more robust locking E-mount that is fully compatible with E-Mount lenses and supports all electronic connections.
The mount with a lock feature minimizes lens movement and is compatible with a wide range of 35mm lenses, including PL, EF, Leica, and Nikon, through the use of optional adapters. This robust E-mount is perfect for accommodating heavier, longer cine-zooms without the necessity for extra lens support. An electronic variable ND system is positioned just behind the lens mount, offering a transparent filter and three presets that can be customized by the user.
The ND variable can be modified to offer anywhere from 2 to 7 stops of ND. The camera has the capability to record footage on optional XQD media cards that are on-board, in either DCI 4K (4096 x 2160) or UHD 4K (3840 x 2160) at a maximum of 59.94 fps, or in HD at a maximum of 180 fps. The recording formats available are XAVC-I, XAVC-L, or MPEG-2. However, it’s important to note that MPEG-2 recording isn’t compatible with the high data rates that the camera can produce when shooting in UHD.
