SPIRITS OF HAVANA

June marks the 25th Anniversary of Spirits of Havana, Jane Bunnett's
landmark 1991 album. It was the first major collaboration of North American
and Cuban musicians, preceding Buena Vista Social Club by several years.
Jane Bunnett is known for her creative integrity, improvisational daring
and courageous artistry. Her exploration of Afro Cuban melodies expresses
the universality of music and her ability to embrace and showcase the rhythms
and culture of Cuba has been groundbreaking.
Jane Bunnett s accolades are numerous, including: five JUNO Awards and
multiple Downbeat Award wins, The Order of Canada, The Queens Diamond
Jubilee medal and Ontario s Premiers Award of Excellence, in addition to two
GRAMMY Award nominations and receiving a Lifetime Achievement Award
from The Smithsonian Institute.
