St Peter's Basilica.: The History of the Basilica, from The Constantinian Basilica to the new one. IV - XVII Century. The Popes and the Architets (History by Illustrations Book 1)
1700 years have elapsed since it was placed the first stone of the Basilica that Emperor Constantine wished to pose on the Vatican Hill, near the old circus of Caligula and Nero, above an ancient pagan necropolis first and then the christian one , built around the grave of Saint Peter. The Constantinian Basilica was the center of Christianity for over a thousand years, becoming for the Roman people before and for the Christians of the whole pre-Columbian world, the center of their faith, the witness of Christian roots represented by the tomb of the Apostle Peter.
