Goal of Book
In Book 1, I list several clear, easy-to-understand, practical foundational principles that must be included in every lesson that has transformation as its goal. In Book 2, I'll show you how to integrate seven, teaching elements that help your class apply the lesson to their lives.

I'll show you how to apply informational and transformational teaching techniques that improve comprehension and understanding, but more importantly, that help listeners accept and obey the truth. You will learn how to replace informational lessons with life-altering transformational ones so that your impact ripples from person to person to person. The book focuses on practical how-to's so that you can begin using these principles in your next lesson.

Two principles stand out as priceless to me. First, the 'sticky proverb' works great because it is like the sticky notes everyone uses to remind them of important things. The proverb acts like a sticky note for the mind, & it will get to the heart.

Second, Teaching more by teaching less. Being 76 years old, & having been saved since age 13; I have heard mostly informational teaching, & it doesn't do much for me. I always have to step back from it & find one point that I can remember that I need. That is my reaction, & my education includes a Bachelor of Theology.

I shared those two principles with my pastor, & to my surprise, he employed them in his next teaching session. Comments I heard were: "The best he has ever taught; that was a fantastic lesson; he really gave me something I can hang on to."

The two "Teaching Them To Obey" books are the best I've seen in explaining why our teaching needs to be transformational, rather than informational. Beyond that, Dr. Simon explains, in very clear & practical terms, exactly how to prepare a lesson that is biblically accurate & reaches learners' hearts as well as their minds in order to create & grow disciples of Christ.
