As with any specialized field, pocket watch collecting has its own terminology, and it is not always easy for the novice collector to understand what the â€œexpertsâ€ are talking about. What does it mean to say that a watch has â€œjewelsâ€ or that it is â€œadjustedâ€? What is a â€œhunter caseâ€ watch? Whatâ€™s the difference between a railroad â€œgradeâ€ watch and a railroad â€œapprovedâ€ watch? What is a â€œlever setâ€ watch? Isnâ€™t â€œrolled goldâ€ a brand of pretzel? Etc., etc., etc. This booklet is full of all the things I wish somebody had told me when I first started collecting, and which I have shared with many new collectors over the years. Keep in mind that I have tried to keep things as simple and basic as possible for quick and easy comprehension, which necessarily means that this is not a scholarly treatise. But hopefully this will give you enough information to get you started and also give you a clue what those â€œotherâ€ books are talking about.
