In 1979, forces of the Frente Sandinista Liberacion Nacional, or Sandinista National Liberation Front (FSLN), rolled triumphantly into Managua, Nicaragua, after overthrowing the hated dictatorship of Anastasio Somoza Debayle.
The FSLN had struggled for nearly two decades to oust the U.S.-backed Somoza dynasty, which brutally repressed and exploited the Nicaraguan people before finally being successful.
The end result however was not the liberation of the workers and farmers of Nicaragua. "The Nicaraguan Revolution" examines the processes behind the rise and fall of the mass revolutionary movement.
