Dork Diaries 12: Tales from a Not-So-Secret Crush Catastrophe
The Thermo Scientific Orion 9157BNMD triode pH probe is a refillable electrode that measures pH and temperature with ATC, has an epoxy body for durability, a glass fiber junction, and a BNC connection with an 8-pin Mini-DIN connector. The probe has a built-in thermistor for automatic temperature compensation (ATC), and a Bayonet Neill-Concelman (BNC) connection with an 8-pin Mini-DIN connector. The 9157BNMD is refillable for prolonging the life of the electrode, and uses an Ag/AgCl (silver/silver chloride) electrolyte for less noise (unwanted voltages) than gold or purely silver electrodes. This electrode is frequently used in aqueous solutions in the lab and field.
pH range is 0 to 14 (+ or - 0.02 with ATC), temperature range is 0 to 90 degrees C (32 to 194 degrees F) and body dimensions are 120 mm (length) x 12 mm (diameter), with a 1 m cable. This electrode uses 4 M KCl (900011) fill solution. Buffer and storage solutions are sold separately.
pH electrodes are used in pH meters and testers to measure the acidity or alkalinity of a substance. They are often constructed of glass, which senses hydrogen ions, and generates a millivoltage that is picked up by the filling solution and transferred to a wire that connects to the pH meter.
Thermo Fisher Scientific manufactures analytical instruments, laboratory equipment, consumables, and software under the Thermo Scientific and Fisher Scientific brands, among others. The company was founded in 2006 and is headquartered in Waltham, MA.
