From a ticking clock to a hot water bottle wrapped in a towel to a ride in the car, when it comes to soothing a crying baby it seems like everyone has a "trick." The funny thing is, when it comes to helping a little one fall asleep, nothing works better than the time-tested solution-a gently rocking cradle. That's what makes this country cradle project a great idea for any do-it-yourselfer with a child (or grandchild) on the way. It's easy to build, its classic styling may just make it the next family heirloom and, most importantly, it helps the baby (and mom and dad) get some sleep. Made mostly from a single 1-by-12 pine board, almost all of the project's pieces are traced from full-size patterns. Construction is simple. First, trace the pieces onto wood, cut everything out and sand. Next, assemble the cradle box and base section separately, using glue and wood screws. To complete, apply finish of choice and suspend the cradle from the end posts. The assembled project measures 41 inches long by 30 inches tall by 22 inches wide. About U-Bild plans: U-Bild plans are ideal for woodworkers and do-it-yourselfers of all skill levels.
