U.S. WW2 Vintage Metal Sign: B-17 Memphis Belle

New Made Item: The Memphis Belle made The B-17 Flying Fortress famous. It flew 25 consecutive bombing runs from on November 7th 1942 to May 19th 1943. The plane was named for pilot Robert K. Morgan's sweetheart, Margaret Polk, a resident of Memphis, Tennessee. Morgan originally intended to call the plane Little One, after his pet name for her, but after Morgan and his copilot, Jim Verinis, saw the movie Lady for a Night, in which the leading character owns a riverboat named the Memphis Belle, he proposed that name to his crew. Morgan then contacted George Petty at the offices of Esquire magazine and asked him for a pinup drawing to go with the name, which Petty supplied from the magazine's April 1941 issue.

This Memphis Belle vintage metal sign measures approximately 12-inches by 18-inches. Unlike most tin signs, this sign is designed and made in the United States using 24 gauge American steel and a process known as sublimation, where the image is baked into a powder coating for a durable and long lasting finish. We then perform a vintage process by hand to give this sign an aged look and feel. The edges of this sign are rounded for extra rigidity and the corners are drilled and riveted for easy hanging.
