Lanza died in 1959, problems with barbiturates, alcohol and obesity bringing his story to an untimely and unfortunate end. But he left us his music. As the man who introduced opera to the masses long before Pavarotti, Carreras and Domingo s Three Tenors, Mario Lanza deserves to be remembered and, as long as releases like this make his music available, his name will surely live on.
