In keeping with Whittle Shortline Railroad's goal of providing young railroad engineers with realistic wooden toy trains, We are excited to announce its new fleet of "Streamliner" passenger trains. The word "streamliner" comes from America's Railroad Golden Age. That period from the 1930s to the 60s when the railroads modernized their passenger fleets to create a travel experience rather than just taking someone from place to place. The railroads of the time were losing ridership to the automobile and later to the airplane. They knew that in order to win those passengers back, they would have to make their new passenger trains modern, luxurious, comfortable, and memorable. Most railroads of the period identified their newly designed engines and cars with the names of cities, famous Americans, and even race horses; giving their new trains distinct identities. All of Whittle Shortline's "Streamliner" passenger cars are named for America's national parks and monuments. The United States was the first country to establish a national park system and we believe that these gems are distinctly American and should be celebrated and shared with our children. The first "Streamliner" passenger car are the; Liberty Park, home of the Statue of Liberty. The second passenger car is named for the only national park that be seen from space; Grand Canyon National Park. Our first Streamliner engine is the John Henry of railroad man-vs-machine fame. Whittle Shortline Railroad's "Streamliner" toys will give you the opportunity to share our country's gems and American railroad folklore with your children. Known for our quality, our wooden toy trains are compatible with major wooden railways like Thomas, Brio and Chuggington. They are modeled after North American freight and passenger trains such as Burlington Northern, CSX, Canadian National, Canadian Pacific, Metra of Chicago, Norfolk Southern, Santa Fe and Union Pacific. Made in the United States by our family for close to 20 years!
