Zakes Mda
Zakes Mda

He is the award winning South African author who has put our own banner around the globe with his critically acclaimed books he authored. And that is none other than Zanemvula Kizito Gatyeni Mda commonly known as Zakes Mda who is the novelist, Playwright and Poet who has won major South African and British literary awards for his novels and plays. In his plays and novels, which draw on both Western and indigenous performance traditions, Mda engages with the history of southern Africa during and after apartheid. Writing from a position of exile, as well as from within his native country, he examines the lives of ordinary people and the ways in which they come to terms with the effects of apartheid. Mda has distinguished himself not only as a playwright and novelist, but also as a literary and cultural theorist and activist. He is a significant voice among the many in contemporary South Africa that exploit innovative forms to explore a culture in transition. This book demonstrates the wide range of both Mda’s work and its critical reception, with discussions of his fiction and drama by scholars from South Africa, Europe and the USA. The essays reinforce the impression of an original and challenging writer whose creative skills have been used to focus attention on the plight of the underprivileged. This volume provides stimulating reading to anyone with an interest in Zakes Mda, in particular, and in South African writing in general. To date since from his childhood age he has authored ample of books titles poets and novels that won the numerous awards across the globe. Amongst the bevy of abundant books he wrote are just to name the few are We Shall Sing for the Fatherland (1977), The Plays of Zakes Mda(1990), The Madonna of Excelsior (1992)together with many more to choose from.

However with me here I have such an extraordinary book that is so riveting and compiling at its means known as Ways of Dying which is so close to my heart and imagine what it could do to you to substantiate just further about this book Ways of Dying, Zakes Mda's acclaimed first novel, Toloki is a "professional mourner" in a vast and violent city of the new South Africa. Day after day he attends funerals in the townships, dressed with dignity in a threadbare suit, cape, and battered top hat, to comfort the grieving families of the victims of the city's crime, racial hatred, and crippling poverty. At a Christmas day funeral for a young boy Toloki is reunited with Noria, a woman from his village. Together they help each other to heal the past, and as their story interweaves with those of their acquaintances this elegant short novel provides a magical and painful picture of South Africa today. Ways of Dying was awarded South Africa's prestigious M-Net Book Prize, awarded by the TV channel M-Net to books written in one of South Africa's official languages, and was shortlisted for the Central News Agency (CNA) Award and the Noma Award, an Africa-wide prize founded by Shoichi Noma, onetime president of Kodansha International.

Furthermore, I insist if you haven’t had the opportunity to peruse this title called The Whale Caller: A Novel - Zakes Mda to start making means to have it for yourself. The novel is the author’s fifth offering and deeply revolves around the seaside village of Hermanus is overrun with whale-watchers--foreign tourists determined to see whales in their natural habitat. But when the tourists have gone home, the whale caller lingers at the shoreline, wooing a whale he has named Sharisha with cries from a kelp horn. When Sharisha fails to appear for weeks on end, the whale caller frets like a jealous lover--oblivious to the fact that the town drunk, Saluni, a woman who wears a silk dress and red stiletto heels, is infatuated with him. the two misfits eventually fall in love. But each of them is ill equipped for romance, and their relationship suggests, in the words of The Washington Post, that "the deeper, darker concern here is not so much the fragility of love, but the fragility of life itself when one surrenders wholly to the foolish heart."

So there you have it wonderful peeps whom I can safely regard them as the book warmers, and hope that you will make reasonable efforts to at least have some ones and twos of this legendary author who is the force to be reckoned with. Simply make means to log in to our online shopping site wantitall.co.za that has all of these titles retailed at the spectacularly reliable price.
